The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Eight: Special Awards

“We’re leaving together, but still it’s farewell” Well here we are at the (late I know) end of this series. I’ve enjoyed it, but I’m looking forward to posting about random crap from now on. I’m looking at keeping either a regular Monday or Wednesday schedule from now on. We’ll just see how that goes lol. So for this final part I’ll be showcasing some games that I feel deserved mention but didn’t fit into a genre award. This awards are more about games I really enjoyed or that left a mark on me. So lets kick this baby into … Continue reading The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Eight: Special Awards

The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Six: Best Real Time Strategy

“To the leader, to the prior, the victim, the Messiah” Well here we are at part six of this series. I’ll start this one off by saying I’m not much of an RTS fan. It’s not really a genre I play very regularly. I find that too many of the games in this genre place a focus on massing as many resources as possible in the shortest amount of time. I’ve never really understood where the ‘Strategy’ part comes from. Using a Zerg or Mamoth Tank rush is not what I would consider strategic in anyway. Doesn’t matter though, people … Continue reading The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Six: Best Real Time Strategy

The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Five: Best Horror Game

“Please don’t loose hope…” Welcome back for yet another late post. I apologise but, like Mass Effect 2, Doctor Who has priority. Hopefully I’ll get Wednesday’s post done on time. Firstly I’ll talk a bit about about this issue. Read the article and the comments (on that site and on every gaming related website around the globe) and make up your own mind. Here’s my opinion: DRM is mostly a bad call. Why do I say this? because unlike most I buy games. I have often borrowed a game or taken a copy at a LAN party but 98% of … Continue reading The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Five: Best Horror Game

The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Four: Music/Rhythm Game

“Tonight! I’m a Rock n’ Roll Star!” Welcome back. Another late one I know shut up. First up I should mention the ‘platform’ that I list after a game is the platform I played it on not the only one available. Today I bring you one of the newer genres in video games. Sure it was around (Japan mostly) but it didn’t really become established until the last decade. These games are a fresh new way to enjoy music and have become a very popular ‘party game’ probably the only party style games which aren’t exclusive to Nintendo’s Wii. Everyone … Continue reading The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Four: Music/Rhythm Game

The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Three: Third Person Shooter

“till’ in the john mirror you stare at yourself grown old and weak” Late post I know but I was sick today and busy finishing my second Mass Effect 2 play through so give me a break 🙂 Anyway we return now to celebrate the best third person shooter of the decade. Best Third Person Shooter – Max Payne (PC) (2001) Wikipedia I don’t understand how a game like this could not be on anyone’s favourites list. For starters it not only contained genre changing game play but also the first real attempt at photorealistic textures. Sure the graphics are … Continue reading The Best Video Games of 2000 – 2010: Part Three: Third Person Shooter
